| Yes, I'm still here ... just finished the semester from hell and am finally finished *whew*. I'm technically done my degree but have decided to stay another semester to boost my overall GPA up just a little bit in case I actually do go through with the whole graduate school idea. It took a bit of a hit this semester, not too bad but just a little bit under what is considered "acceptable". I'm past the minimum but being a bit higher would be better. So, as one of the girls I work with described "underwater basket weaving" will be the fall semester choice *snickers at that*.
And that's it ... worked the weekends and school classes and homework the rest of the time. My house looks like a disaster area but that will be cleaned up over the summer I hope. Speaking of ... where is that vacume cleaner now? *shuffles off to find it*

| Didn't realize how long it had been since I updated this thing. Not much that I can report since there has been stuff going on, but I'm not willing to put it out there for public consumption. University classes have kept me pretty busy and I'm behind in the weekly readings etc again ... but that's nothing new. I will be taking one more semester ... this was going to be the last but I have one class that I really should take if I actually do go onto grad school, so one more semester for me. Other than that, it's been the same old boring me. *shrugs*

| Okay, so first up ... I'm actually almost used to the new eye glasses. The only problem I still seem to have it turning my head quickly with my eyes open, I get a little dizzy from that, so I've learned to do that with my eyes closed for now. Work is still, well, work and I'm looking forward to the "new" schedule come the beginning of classes (weekends only *whee*). Which takes us to the topic of classes ... my textbooks have already arrived (so very geeky of me ) having ordered them online a few weeks back. I've managed to save almost $50 over both of them (I only needed 2 of them this term) by buying good used ones online (there isn't a mark in either of them) as opposed to what most students will probably pay for new copies at the university bookstore since although they do have a "used" price, will likely not actually have used copies since the course hasn't been offered in something close to forever.
The anime convention ... it was a hoot! Didn't spend a fortune either but did pick up a few cute items that have taken up a special spot on my desk. Got to see a few anime titles that I hadn't seen before and a couple that haven't even been released in North America yet (the companies ADV/Funimation made those available for viewing at the con, which was awesome). One of the video watching moments I liked the most was sitting in a room of about 200 people watching the Fullmetal Alchemist movie (about 90% had seen it from the response) and sitting there all laughing together at the funny bits was just precious. There were a couple of truly hilarious comments in the room as well at specific times that would only be funny if you'd seen the film and been there at the time, so I won't elaborate on that, but know that it was fun. A couple of panels stuck out as well, one with a couple of voice actors talking about the industry and answering questions ... often in the voices they do, which at times was just too hilarious for description.
I did enjoy myself overall through the convention but actually didn't take all that many photos. Was having some issues with my camera over the event and so the best I can offer are links to other people who took a lot of photos (and much better than I would have done anyway).
Shades of Grey photos on flicker Mavi Chaos photos on flicker Muran-hime photos on flicker
There were so many people in good costumes that I would have never gotten them all anyway, thus take a boo at the links above to get an idea of some of the great work people put into what they were wearing. One of my favourites was the girl dressed as the Katamari prince, but really there were too many to say that one specific was my absolute favourite of all. I'll definitely be going again next year and perhaps will have sorted out the camera issues by then.
For now though, I need to get back to the working grind and housework. I have to do a major cleaning of my office before classes start as well ... thinking I'll pull everything out of the room and do a reorganizing as well. That's it from my little world *shuffles away*.

| So what have I been doing in the month since my last entry? Work, work, and more work. When not at work, I've been trying to keep ahead of the housework and the never-ending pile of books waiting to be read. I did do registration for what "should" be my last semester at university as an undergraduate ... yes, I know, I've been at this forever. One last history course to fill that last required spot for my extended minor and I'm doing one archaeology course because I just cannot stay away from my major. The history one should be interesting since it's the history of Australia and New Zealand ... never taken any serious history about "down under" beyond the anthropology/archaeology stuff that seriously predates anything that'll be covered in this course. I'm looking forward to that one. The archaeology one is a dedicated course regarding computing methods used. So databases, mapping systems, and the dreaded (at least for me) statistical stuff will all be included. This will help in the "if I ever actually work in the archaeology field" thing and should be interesting despite how boring it might sound or with the dreaded statistics involved.
I've also found ways to spend money in the last month ... at least the paycheques are covering this. I finally gave in and got my eyes checked and yes, I needed new glasses if I was going to do another semester without any additional struggle just being able to read printed stuff. I'm "far-sighted" meaning that my distance vision is okay but to read printed stuff, I need to hold my arms further away than is possible just to focus properly. This was just not going to work well for much longer so I gave in. The new glasses are nice, but they cost $$$ since I now have a "progressive" lens prescription. *sigh* I could have gone with a regular reading prescription (less money by about 1/3) but I would have been constantly taking the damn things on and off every time I need to look up at the computer or across a room.
The other ways I have spent money has been on books and was talked into going to my first (dedicated) anime convention (the money spending only started with registration, I've put some aside to buy stuff at the con). The last con I went to was about 10 or so years ago so it should be a small shock to my system. The con is held on the grounds of my university so I at least won't get lost finding stuff ... but I am a bit nervous since I haven't gone to one in so very long. I consider "conventions" and "conferences" as two completely different entities ... I've gone to conferences about history or archaeology stuff, but this won't be anything like that. Anyway, it's this weekend and I managed to book the time off work so I can go without worrying about wasting time or needing to be at work. And no, I'm not doing the costume thing either. A friend asked if I was at least going to dye my hair (temporarily of course) in either blue, pink, or purple. Nope, nada, not a chance ... although I do have a rather funky green/teal colour of nail polish on my toes. *snicker* I'll be taking the camera with me so perhaps I'll have some fun pictures to share afterward. The author of the book I've tagged on the Xangazon thingy *points below* is one of the guests doing a couple of discussion panels I'll be sitting in on ... should be interesting to hear what she has to say.
And that's been about it. Nothing much happening around here but the same old boring stuff. Now I need to get that pile of laundry and stuff done before the weekend since I'm going to be otherwise engaged. *shuffles away while practicing fangirl squeal*

| Seems like I'm only updating this thing about once a month ... ah well, guess that's just more proof about how lazy I'm becoming. Been way too hot around to have the computer turned on to do much anyway, so I guess that's one excuse. Somehow I've managed to loose 5 pounds and really have no idea what I did ... haven't given up any of my junk-food nor am I really doing any more exercise *shrug*. I've already registered for what, in theory, should be my last semester as an undergraduate this fall. I say "in theory" because you just never know with me, they might offer something I really want to take the next semester and it isn't like I have any real plans for my degree beyond this fall anyway.
Since it hasn't been exactly the type of weather/temperatures for me to get much done ... and when I haven't been at work ... I've had my nose buried in books, when I'm not trying to sleep despite the heat or watching tv that is. My apathy for writing is still hanging around so I've been avoiding Bardic Web (sorry guys) since I just don't want to be responsible for holding anyone else back just because I'm a lazy arse.
So, yeah, back to the book thing ... been reading through the Star Wars Legacy of the Force books and I've come to the conclusion that Jacen Solo should have been beaten more as a child. He's turned into a complete arse as an adult ... and if you haven't read these and want to be surprised look away now ... he's turned into the exact thing his grandfather was, a Sith. Okay, so he's supposed to be a tormented soul in the way the books are writing him, that doesn't make him any less of an arse. I'd quit reading these but the Mandalorian storyline so far is really quite interesting and I love what Karen Traviss has done with the Clone troopers and the Fett's in previous books, so I'm hanging in there for that thread alone. And really, don't even get me started on what Luke's turned into over the years in these books, I mean really, the freaking head of the Jedi order and he can't seem to make any decision without approval from Mara *grumble*, oh for gods' sake. Anyway, I've finished the latest of these called "Sacrifice" and will continue, if only to read the point where Jacen gets his butt kicked ... since he has it coming for so many reasons and at the hands (or feet, or blasters, or lightsabers) of so many characters. Thankfully, my local library has these since I really wouldn't have bought any of these ones. I know, that's shocking to some of you knowing how much of a Star Wars fan I have always been.
Anyway, this was intended to be a very short entry. So I think I'll find somewhere to hang out where the dogs and I won't melt so quickly and the computer is going off to save heat as well.
